Tizzerts, Inc. opened for business
in July, 1995 near downtown Charlotte, NC. Tiz
Faison Benson is the founder and sole owner, hence
the name of the business.
The bakery is actually called
“A Custom Cakery,” because the menu includes fresh, made
to-order layer cakes, brownies, and bundt cakes.
With the help of Anita
Stack, the Cake Designer and Manager, Tizzerts, Inc.
has established a reputation for products, which are
the most beautiful, best tasting and most consistent
in quality in Charlotte over the last 8 years. The “cakery”
manufactures products for wholesale customers as well
as retail consumers, including elegant and scrumptious
wedding cakes.
Our motto is “A Cake Isn’t Just a Cake. A Brownie isn’t
Just a Brownie.” Just try one and you will know!
Tiz Faison Benson

A native Charlottean, Tiz was greatly influenced
by her mother, Nat Faison, a sensational cook who always
baked a never-ending supply of homemade treats for
her family and friends. In fact, Tiz never even had
a store-bought birthday cake until she went to
Agnes Scott College.
Following college, Tiz worked for a family in Atlanta
and traveled extensively with them. Those travels
brought her to France, where Tiz fell in love with
the business of “food,” especially the breads and desserts.
She stayed in France for a little over a year and upon
returning home, she met Anita Connell at NewMarket
and worked at Harris Teeter for four years.
In 1991, Tiz moved to New York to attend Peter Kump’s
New York Cooking School (now called New York Professional
Culinary Institute) where she received a Professional
Pastry Degree. She was the Custom Cake Designer and
Product Development Leader at Umanoff and Parsons,
a wholesale bakery and catering company, and credits
her time in their small, unheated and unairconditioned
space in Tribeca with teaching her that you can
design decadent masterpieces in cramped quarters.
Tiz met her now-husband, Ben Benson, in New York
and they moved to Charlotte in 1994. The next year,
she founded Tizzerts. Tiz and Ben exemplify the saying
“Behind every successful woman, is a kind man!”

Anita Stack
Like Tiz, Anita recognizes her mother for inspiring
her passion for baking. Anita’s mother, Charlyne
Baker, continues to influence her with her art projects,
scratch baking and sense of fun. Anita has been
decorating cakes since she was 18 years old and started
her career with Harris Teeter in 1979.
Harris Teeter recognized Anita’s incredible abilities
and promoted her to oversee and manage their new project,
NewMarket in 1985. It was
during this time, Anita hired Tiz and showed her the
“baking ropes.” Anita continues to perfect her craft
and especially enjoyed training with Colette Peters,
the acclaimed gum paste flower and cake maker.
